Chuchotage or whispered interpreting is usually restricted to a very small audience (generally no more than two or three people). The interpreter translates simultaneously, “whispering” into the listener’s ear (the French verb chuchoter means “whisper”). No special technical apparatus is needed for chuchotage, although it’s a demanding task that requires skills in simultaneous or consecutive interpreting.
