Proofreading is the careful revision of a translated text by a professional reviewer. The difference between a good translation and an excellent translation lies precisely in the revision.
Our quality management system complies with standard EN 15038:2006 and therefore allows us to deliver translations of the highest level.
Checking
Our CAT software allows us to monitor the progress of translation in real time. Before delivering a job, the translator first performs a preliminary review.
Revision
Once the translation is complete, the reviewer specializing in the field in question performs a second review using translation memories, certified glossaries, specialist dictionaries and expert opinion. More specifically, this reviewer checks the terminology, spelling, grammar, acronyms, completeness, conformity with the terms in the glossary and coherence with previous translations, numbers, dates etc. This is followed by the final stage in the quality assurance process.
Review
As a rule, we include revision in the translation project, as this helps us deliver a finished product of the highest possible quality.
If the client prefers, the second phase can be streamlined to automatic QA, which is limited to spelling, completeness in respect of the source text, numbers, dates, conformity with glossary etc. There is no in-depth assessment of terminology or style. This “light” form of revision significantly reduces costs, generally by 20-30%.
On request of the client, the final text can be reviewed a third time by an independent reviewer with expertise in the field addressed by the translation.
